So, Out to Play finished at #24 in the aniBoom 2008 awards, and didn't get chosen to win any special prizes. So I probably won a magazine or something. Anyways, thanks for all your help everyone! At least I got in the top 50 :-)
And an update on the Siggraph Asia-ness. Out to Play is apaprantly part of the "Special Programme," which is "Entertaining and inspiring examples of the latest and greatest animation techniques and visual effects, selected in a special jury process." So yep, pretty cool. And here's the updated link.
And that's about it.

Siggraph Asia 2008
So I was informed recently that "Out to Play" will be shown at Siggraph Asia in December! Woot! It's part of their "Invited Screenings," which the website describes as:
"School Showcase of promising student work, Studio Specials from the world's leading animation and visual effects experts, and the Best of SIGGRAPH Award Winners from previous Computer Animation Festivals."
It's isn't one of their Juried Competitions (which is what Electronic and Animation Theater are), so I'm not exactly sure how it got chosen to be shown.
Anyways, here's da link!
Gratz also to Robb Gibbs for also getting in :-D

Tony Stark, circa 4/14/08 - 10/16/08
My hamster, Tony Stark, who I bough 6/28/08, at about the age of 2 1/2 months, suddenly and tragically died on Thursday, October 16th. He was a cute, smart little guy, and shall be missed. Never got a good picture of him since he moves around so much, but here he is. The pictures actually look better small because they're all blurry.
I always had to tape his ball shut because he was smart enough to escape it otherwise.

Regarding the post right below this one....
So I entered this contest, aniBoom 2008, which I guess has my thesis get ranked with a bunch of other animations based on how often it gets viewed, shared, and rated highly. So.... check it out at:
http://www.aniboom.com/video/289033/Out-to-Play/
And link to it on facebook, blogs, digg, etc. Send the link to all your friends, and their friends and such and such! The contest goes until December 15th, so like, view it every day? I dunno.
And check this screencap out.
Anpparantly "Out to Play" is the 10th most offensive animation of all time on their website. Who knew?

Sonata Arctica/Nightwish
Last Friday I saw Sonata Arctica and Nightwish at the Filmore in San Fransisco. They were awesome! Here's some crappy pics taken from my camera phone!
That was really the only decent picture I got of Sonata Arctica's performance. Rest is all Nightwish (out of order though).
Near the end of the show, Marco (the bassist) started drinking a bottle of vodka. Toumas had a bottle of wine, too. Looked as though Emppu had some hard cider? Anette didn't drink anything though - she said her tummy hurt.
This is Emppu, their guitarist. My bf caught one of his guitar picks and gave it to me! Yay! <3
Twas an awesome show. Everyone should go see them. As always, you can see the rest of my crappy pictures here.

New Project and Such
So as some of you may be aware, I'm starting a new art project. I started it yesterday, and here it is so far...
Yes it's a crappy photo, I know. I'll be sure to catalog things better when they're done. Anyways, this is Trish's house so far! Just those two sides are done. I was hoping to get her house done this week, but yea..it's taking a pretty big chunk of time to do (I haven't read any of that book I'm supposed to read for work in the past two days...oops), and I'm gonna be pretty busy the rest of this week/weekend. So yea, two more sides, a roof, and a garden to go. Not to mention a pathway and the ground it'll be sitting on. I need to figure out how to do that. I'm thinking making the ground like puzzle pieces, so I can put all my little houses together in a village, but also take them apart and still look pretty.
Yes, the brickwork is tedious, but I've watched pretty much the whole "Legend of Zelda" animated series (for the Super mario Bros. Super Show) while doing this tonight, and I must say...that show is terrible. In an awesome way tho. I guess next I'll watch all of Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World. Then I'll have to get some more DVD's...
ANYWAYS...if you want a little house in my paper village, just tell me what kind of house you want. It can be made of puppies for all I care. I'll prolly finish this one in about a week? And I'm estimating most houses (and I've gotten some pretty complicated ones...) will take about a week or 2 to make. So far I have 3 more lined up, so yea. Don't expect to see your house too soon.
Oh and I guess for reference, the front side of Trish's house is 3 1/8 inches wide. So yea...they be small.

Woot some art!
So Friday night I took a little walk downtown and did some sketching. Went home, wanted to do something more with it, but haha, I left all my markers, paints, and pretty papers in Florida, and I don't remember if I brought my tablet with me, if I did, I don't know where I put it. Plus, no scanner, so the best I could get on my computer was a fuzzy photograph. So...I pretty much just colored it in Photoshop with flat colors and textures I got off the internet. And here it is:

My New Home!
Yay! Here's a lil tour of my new apartment. I guess the video was too big for poor blogger to support, so I had to go through youtube.
Carlsbad Caverns
We stopped at Carlsbad Caverns on the way over to California, and it was awesome. Really pretty. I tried taking some good pictures, but failed miserably. It was just too dark for my little camera, or else I couldn't hold it still long enough for it to process the image (try holding a camera perfectly still for 8 seconds...its hard). But out of the many, many terrible pictures, I did get a few keepers. Enjoy!
As per usual, if you're interested in seeing all the other pictures (as terrible as they may be), you can check them out on Facebook!

California!!
So I'm moving out to San Rafael in about a week, and I just got back from short lil visit over there. I really liked walking around the rose garden in Golden Gate Park, so here's some choice photos from that. If you want to see all the pictures I took from my trip (plus some photos of friends and I having epic battles during my Michigan trip), check them out on my Facebook album, here. Otherwise, on with the pretty!!
And then here's a couple o' photos of the view outside where I'm gonna be working.

Just wow...(Note: I did not make this!!!)
So a friend of mind found this cake and posted it on Facebook, and I just have to say...it is the greatest cake ever!
The girl who made it's name is Su-Yin, and she has a blog with more pictures, so go check it out! She also has a bunch of recipes and stuff posted. Pretty talented girl, she is. Her cakes are all beautiful. I want one when I get married...

Here's some "art!"
So, I was bored, and I've been telling a friend of mine for ages (sarcastically, of course) that I needed to write him a book. So I made it! Yay! It is 16 little pages long in Comic Sans...yes, Comic Sans. Realizing early on that I've never bound a book before, and all I was working with was Photoshop, thread, and some of my mum's letterhead (I printed on the blank side, but on the inside cover you can see remnants of the letterhead's heading), I planned on it being pretty ghetto, thus Comic Sans fit. The pages don't line up, I accidentally got some water on it...and yea. I'M pretty happy with how it turned out. Here's the cover!
The rainbow and puppies were inspired by the cover of the X-Force #1-3 compilation in which rainbows and puppies are shooting out of Wolverine's claws. Go figure. The title was suggested by my friend. Writing the book probably took half an hour. Making it, maybe a total of 2 hours. Like I said...not intended to be a fine work of art.

So what am I up to?
I am ashamed to say that I have no new artwork to post. I worked on a submission for May's 11 second club for a few days, but for a handful of reasons, both personal and time-related, I decided to take the month off, and will finish the animation when things aren't so crazy. I really like the audio we were given and I think my concept is...different...from any of the W.I.P. postings I'd seen. So while it won't be done for the contest...it will be done at some point! And then I shall post it here! woohoo!
But things are going to be crazy for awhile because I'm moving to the San Fransisco Bay area next month! Yay! More on my job when it's official, but I'll definitely post some pictures of the move. :-)

Child's Play
Thesis is done! Woot!! You can see it on my website @ www.jessicalozano.com. Just click on the Thesis link. You'll need DivX to view it.
And here's the poster I made for the CA Senior Show.
The theme was 80's movies, and since Giggles looked so much like Chuckie, I just had to. Technically, this is based off the Child's Play 2 poster, which was in 1990....but it had 2 "characters" and a box, which was kind of perfect. So I went with that poster. Those scissors were made in about 4 seconds....yay beveling curves!!
